 No More Needless Deaths!

On Monday, March 17, Michael Bourque, a Rhode Islander experiencing homelessness, was pulled from a burning truck. By the next day, he had died from his injuries. He was only 33 years old. One of the most tragic aspects of his death is that it could have been prevented.

Since the General Assembly allocated $750,000 for Opening Doors Rhode Island: The State's Strategic Plan to Prevent and End Homelessness many homeless Rhode Islanders have been placed in housing. While these successes serve to illustrate the very real ability of our government to end homelessness, deaths like Michael Bourque's show us that more needs to be done. More must be done.

Please join us in calling on the leaders of the Rhode Island General Assembly to raise the funding for Opening Doors RI to $3.4 million for the Housing Rental Subsidy Program and provide an increase of $439,000 for homeless prevention and assistance.
