“We are involved in work that most shy away from because we have experienced homelessness, struggle with inconsistent living situations, and have friends and loved ones who have been homeless. We raise our voices, share our vision, and are part of making policy, program and funding decisions to prevent and end youth homelessness because we know how important and necessary real change is. We’re part of this movement so youth who are struggling with housing now can have their voices heard and know they’re not alone, and to make sure others no longer have to go through what we’ve experienced.” - RI Youth Action Board

Youth Action Board

The Rhode Island Youth Action Board (YAB) is a group of 13-24 year-olds with lived experience and their allies, who work collaboratively with Youth In Action to discuss and create sustainable solutions to end  youth homelessness. Any youth, ages 13-24, interested in ending and preventing youth homelessness are welcome to join the YAB. Those with lived experience, youth of color, and youth who identify as LGBTQIA+ are prioritized.

Youth Homelessness Demonstration Project

In 2021, the state of Rhode Island  was awarded a $3.5m grant from the Youth Homelessness Demonstration Project (YHDP), a program funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Since then, the Coalition has worked collaboratively with the community to formulate a plan of how to address youth homelessness in Rhode Island. We will be releasing our Community Care Plan on addressing youth homelessness in Rhode Island this Spring.
